The termination of IE for Macs is the certainly the end of an era. For me
it has been a pretty reliable friend for many years through various Mac
operating systems. For all the hostility which seems to have been directed
at Microsoft from some quarters, I've always felt this was unjustified as
far as their free browser was concerned. It served me well and I salute it.

But in recent times IE appeared to have not been keeping up with changes.
For example I see that the satirical site at The Onion
http://www.theonion.com/index.php?pre=1 rejects visitors with IE browsers.
A message comes up to that effect and advises use of some other browser.
Maybe someone on the list could explain the technical reason behind this?

This machine has OS 9.2.2 and IE 5.1.7. I do have another machine with OSX
but I like OS 9 for several reasons. I suppose I will need to pick on
another browser.

What are the opinions about the best free option?

Kind regards, and may you all have a safe and enjoyable Christmas.

Paul.
