Paul, I believe that iTunes does not "re-download" new Gracenote data
unless you explicitly request "Get CD Track Names" from the "Advanced"
menu. If this is too awkward for you, you can completely obliterate
your cached Gracenote data as per my previous e-mail. To do this,
delete the file found at "Home > Library > Preferences > CD Info.cidb"
(i.e., drag it to the Trash and Empty Trash). This technique "works
for me" (iTunes 6.0.1). Note: Rob mentioned "iTunes Music Library.xml"
but I believe that file is only used if you have "imported" your CDs
into your "iTunes Library". It does not pertain to the information
displayed for a physical CD. Likewise, downloading fresh data from
Gracenote would not modify any previously-imported "iTunes Library"
items (if any).

As for the quality of the data, I am also the type of person who would
get disappointed if other people didn't take care with their inputs to
Gracenote. I am also the sort of person who notices spelling and
punctuation errors, omissions, etc. However, I"ve not personally
noticed errors or slackness with classical CDs in Gracenote. The only
problem that springs to my mind is variability in whether people cite
the performers or composers in the "Artisti" field. Also, there can be
stylistic differences in the way that people annotate individual
movements as tracks.

Also, it's a shame to hear that you've tried contributing corrections
back to Gracenote unsuccessfully, and I can understand your
frustration with that aspect.

James.
