My lamp base modelG4 iMac has no Audio input plugs.
I want to connect it to my record player. Those with long memories will
remember them. They played vinyl records: large round flat things. :-)
Is there such a thing as a USB connector to two pin audio? If not, how do I
get the sound into the iMac?

they sure do make such do hickeys.
the main issue is that record players output is so week you have to
get one with proper microphone preamp.
The iMic is the one I'd recommend, cheap (ish) and their software
(final vinyl) includes the correct eq bias for both MM and MC heads.
that said their software can be a bit flaky so you may want to try
other freeware alternatives
