The extremely basic firewalls in Mac OS X and Windows XP are intended to do much the same thing.

I think it should be emphasized that the _default configuration_ in Mac OS X is basic, not ipfw itself. :) ipfw is a more than acceptable firewalling package, just not with the default config that it gets when you click the little Start button in the Firewall tab of Sharing.

Sorry , but I am still learning about this .... what is ipfw ... and what changes would you recommend ?
