G'day everyone,
We're in the market for a new laserprinter at home after our old
second-hand
Apple Laserwriter 16/600 started crashing our Netgear wireless
basestation
every time we turned the laser on and causing our house's power
circuit to
trip out every morning at 7am if we left it on overnight! (anyone ever
experienced this after installing an RCD in your meter box?
Frustrating)
Martin,
The RCD will trigger if a voltage appears on the earth ....
So ,
Either you have a poor neutral connection,
or inside the Laserwriter there is a component or wire which is
touching ground
or frame ..... if you understand that better.
Does the laserwriter collect excess toner ? What does it do with it ?
Has it " overflowed " to bridge between a component and ground ?
Anybody experienced bread crumbs in a Toaster doing the same thing ?
If that is what it is , just cleaning the area should clear up the
problem !
Well it can be just as simple as that , but maybe not this time ! ???

Anyway, the Brother HL-5250DN Mono laser printer is looking pretty
good.
Does anyone know how well it works under Mac OS X? The specs say "Some
functions are not available on PS2 and Mac Drivers" but I haven't yet
found
out any more details of what might be missing. If we can't do duplex
printing for example, it won't be good. We notice the older Brother
5170DN
may not support duplexing on the Mac (conflicting reports in a google
groups
thread) which has us concerned.
The spec list looks decent:
- Ethernet & High Speed USB 2.0
- Duplexing (automatic printing on both sides of a page)
- 28ppm
- 13ppm (when duplexing)
- 1200 dpi native
- Engine First Print Time < 8.5 sec
- Mac OS X support (Bonjour, postscript emulation)
- 32MB memory (upgradeable to 544MB)
- 250 sheet bin
- 3,500 or 7,000 page toner cartridge
- 3,500 toner cart Aus$81 each
And we can get it from Trinix for $436 (any good or bad experiences
with
Trinix? Better prices elsewhere?)
Thanks for any thoughts.
