You haven't included a great deal of information here, but it sounds like a permissions problem.

I take it that you are trying to delete the OLD system folder from your NEW Mac after copying the complete contents of your old iMac hard disk onto the new PowerBook (rather than just your documents and files), and that your PowerBook has its own functioning OS X 10.4 System folder and your user account.

IF that is correct, try this:

1 activate the root account with a new password in NetInfo Manager - Security menu using your current admin user to authenticate
2 log out and log back in as root using your new password
3 delete the OLD system folder and empty the Trash
4 log back in with your user account
5 disable the root account in NetInfo Manager to re-secure your computer

ALTERNATIVELY

Open Terminal.
type sudo rm -r
(that is the word sudo, space, lower case r, lower case m, space, hyphen, lower case r, space) drag the icon of the persistent old system folder to the end of that line where Terminal will helpfully convert the dragged icon into a UNIX path, then press return. You will be prompted for your password with a warning that you are using a dangerous power tool, and the old system folder (or anything you have dragged there by mistake will be vaporised into a puff of electronic smoke, never to be seen again.
Quit Terminal

I've 2 problems
1) when I tried to delete my System Folder from my old mac (what I transferred when I loaded my imac stuff onto the powerbook about a year ago ) I get a message saying can't delete because required by system. What? How? What on earth is being used and how can I find out, and move it somewhere useful and delete the rest?

3) I did a re-install of Tiger to fix my ipod problem (I know, weird but that's what Apple suggests) Apart from having to re-load some software (Photoshop etc) and reactivate some others (Dreamweaver etc) now my only machelper seems to be in my previous sytems folder.

My powerbook seems to be full up with old bits that seem to be needed.

How can I get rid of this old stuff without wrecking anything?
