Folks,
I wonder if anyone has had this experience. In order to get some
kind of uniformity amongst four computer users with various versions
of Windows from the "best" ( oxymoron in my view) to the not so good
and my lone MAC it was suggested that I turn to Open Office to line
up with others.
The OO download once I found the site was OK, but of course it
would not function.
I spent the next two hours trying to figure out why. Searched
through numerous posts to the help section from other frustrated
users, some in German, some in Italian........... No X11! Then
figure out where to get same without too much mucking around. More
time consuming and frustration.
Crank up x11, crank up OO, open up an "ex" MS Word doc and give it
a test run. What a DOG. MS Word is all bells and whistles but
give me that anytime vs. X11. Seems like its "Mac trying to be
windows".
Made my test doc, tried to print ( on a UWA server) no luck at all,
and no inclination to cry for help from the IT wizz downstairs.
Delete OO and X11? Whats the verdict?
Conclusion? OpenOffice is a good idea in theory but not for the
Mac. Anyone want to disagree? At least it confirms (again) why
I use a Mac!!
