Hi Paul, I have a Maxtor external drive at work which I back up my PC with, and I've pulled files off it onto my Mac (when I cleverly managed to lose a week's worth of work and had to redo it all over the weekend) without needing to format it. I can't remember what version of Mac OS I was running at the time, it was probably 10.3.something.
