A little while back I posted regarding my inability to mount or
otherwise access a collection of floppy disk images archived some
years ago using ShrinkWrap. This is a documented problem with no
definitive solution that I could find and neither my efforts nor
those of Robert Howells got me anywhere, whatever was used.
Certainly, ShrinkWrap and other utilities running in Classic just
came up with an "unrecognised format" error.
Inspiration dawned this afternoon, why not try booting into OS9
rather than running Classic? No go on my G5 but easy on my wife's G3
iMac and, of course, the images then mounted and expanded as they
should. I am sure there is an explanation.
Moral, older technology still has its uses and it turns out that it
was a far better thing to buy my wife a secondhand blue G3 500 iMac
(a neat, pretty and friendly little machine quite up to 10.4.6)
rather than the 20'' G5 iMac she probably deserves but would not
really appreciate!
Comments on the problem, not on my wife's computer, welcomed!
