thanks to all who responded & send me files
the whole problem boiled down to a missing (or corrupted) file:
"libSystem.B.dylib"
this file is only created during osx install
checking the console it showed that all the imaging info/settings
stored in that file was lost which caused cups to crash on startup
installing tiger got the printer going again, but it shows that osx
has difficulties in handling usb, i can print 1 page ok, but the
second one may print only half....... (i had that problem since i'm
with osx/any version)
my setup for printing is now osx tiger / cups 1.2 / hp laserjet 522
pack/ usb-paralell cable / hp laserjet 6L printer

my cups does show up now.......
i think my printing problem started after installing gutenprint(gimp
print 5.x)....
