A while ago I tried Yahoo messenger to do an audio chat and indeed I
needed to find out which port (number) it wanted to use for the audio
and then enter this
information into my ADSL router's port forwarding table, stipulating
which internal
(local) IP address to which that port would be forwarded to, this G4
in fact.
So Yahoo did not need port forwarding for text chats but it did for
streaming the audio.
Skype does not need port forwarding for streaming audio but it may
need it for video?
