As secretary of a number of organisations, one of my tasks is to produce and maintain letterhead stationery with headers and footers. This is all done by way of Word 2004 templates in .dot format. The problem comes in trying to pass these templates to others, all Windows users as you might guess. Sent as straight attachments they can not be read by some recipients. However, if saved in .doc (Word document) format there is no problem. Naturally, in Mail, I am sending "Windows Friendly" attachments. I find this strange. One apparent solution is to zip the .dot templates but some of the recipients find unzipping beyond them! There is no problem sending .doc documents except that the first page/ succeeding page difference built into my templates is lost. Any comments on what underlies this difference in sending .doc as against .dot would be welcomed.
