Dear WAMUG friends, For those interested, my Mighty Mouse all of a sudden stopped scrolling downwards. It would scroll upwards and sideways without any problem.
I received many suggestions, but I finally followed the instructions in the following site: http://web.mac.com/karelgil/iWeb/MacWebSite/MightyMEng.html So, forgoing Apple's warranty, the mouse is only 2 months or so old, I opened the little beasty. The first step was not difficult, but be careful with the second 'ring' which is glued. But being careful you can cut the 'glue' just under the ring and separate the ring from the body of the mouse. My scroll ball/button was spotlessly clean, but nonetheless I used isopropyl alcohol, as suggested by a WAMUG member and with my thanks, cleaned the ball recess, and the little plastic shafts to which the little round magnetic rings are attached. I reassembled the lot, used 4 small dash of superglue on the 'second' ring, as per the site's instruction. Plugged the mouse and VoilĂ ! So far it is working, for how long I do not know. Surely Apple could have designed the Mighty Mouse in a user serviceable way eg screws and not superglue!!! Their older mice were completely serviceable, and I have saved many of these in the past for friends and relatives. I'll be looking closely at the Logitech scroll mouse to see if it is friendlier that the Apple one, and if the price is right will buy one as a spare. Many thanks again for the many suggestions.
