You may disable the dashboard by typing the following in the terminal:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES; killall
Dock
You may turn dashboard back on with the following command:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO; killall
Dock
