I echo Glenn's comments regarding Folders Synchroniser. I have been
using it for years as a basis of my backup strategies. Never seems
to miss a beat. Highly recommended at $40

This program makes it quick to setup for bi-directional incremental
backups. What that means is you set up two folders (say one on a
laptop and one on a network drive) and the newer version of a file
is used to update the other folder so the folders are in sync.
This means that we can work on group documents at home on a laptop,
and when we sync the updated file will eventually filter across to
the Network Lacie drive, and from there to the other laptops/
desktops in our group.
If you struggle to get regular backups, this is also a handy way of
making sure your backups have not only happened, but are accessible.
I checked out Unison and rsync ... both too much on the setup
side. Unison will sync with Windows as well as Mac, however in our
case FoldersSynchonizer (Mac only) is fine.
There is a Microsoft Live service called FolderShare - seems to do
the same type of thing - in their privacy statement, Microsoft says
they will keep a copy of all your file names (they gracefully say
they won't actually look into the files, just log the file names).
Nice.
This isn't perfect, but the best I've found so far.
