Steve, I don't disagree with your logic, but I have a filter operating and although I do check the junk mail folder regularly, it can be done at a convenient time, rather than my inbox alerting me of incoming email every few minutes and annoying the cr*p outta me.
I use Entourage and employ its junk mail filter on low setting. Works pretty well.
