Following is a story of exchanges between me and Kodak support.
If you can bear to read the lot and make suggestions if you too have
had experiences (good or bad) with EasyShare then I would be most
appreciative.
Thank you.

Made the following request to Kodak
Mac OS 10.2.8 EasyShare 5.0.2 KODAK camera CX6230
>Since my update (19 February 2007), to ES 5.0.2 my desk top publisher,
>Ragtime 5.6.4 and its more recent version 6 cannot import my jpg
photos.
Has Kodak changed its compression mechanism? Should I uninstall ES 5
and go back one version?
Help appreciated.
Kodak's reply was
>With regard to your concern, please uninstall the latest version of the
software and see if your other programs run properly again to see if
its
is the EasyShare software causing this. If your other programs to run
properly again, reinstall EasyShare one more time and see if it works
fine with the others. They should be getting along with one another.

I have done as you suggested. Appleworks 6, Photoshop 3 (Classic)
and Graphic Converter 5 could see the jpg files before and after
re-installing EasyShare 5. Ragtime still cannot see them. I ran
Disk Utility after each procedure.
I took some new photographs and uploaded to Easy Share. Same outcome
as previously.
Uploaded the same photographs to iPhoto 4 and Ragtime could access the
jpg.
I prefer the interface etc of EasyShare and am reluctant to move to
iPhoto.
Has Kodak changed its compression procedure or some other artefact
since Jan 2007?
Is there a version 4 of EasyShare to download. My original disk is for
v 3.0.

Kodak replied
With regard to your concern, nothing has really changed in Easyshare
software. May we suggest you go back to version 3 as we further
investigate on this. Unfortunately, version 4 is no longer available on
our website and the CD stock is no more. We also suggest taking this up
with Ragtime. They may be able to shed more light on this issue.

Thank you for your reply.
I have been in contact with Ragtime. With Ragtime 6 one can drag
and drop a photo onto a picture frame successfully. Not so with
Ragtime 5 and neither versions of Ragtime will import the image.
They are investigating.
Today I installed EasyShare 6 on my wife's iBook running 10.4.9. I
uploaded some photos from my camera and they behaved in the same way
as the images from EasyShare 5. No luck!
Could the synchronise function, which does not appear to be on
EasyShare 3, be 'conflicting' with something?
The other strange thing is that if I select a photo in EasyShare 5
and use the Save As function from the File menu, but select jpg as
the format in the dialogue box, then Ragtime can access this latter
file. What is the difference between the jpg format originally in
EasyShare and the jpg format obtained through the Save As function?
Your opinions appreciated
Mervyn
