Tony, well done for venturing along this path.

I am a member of the SomerVille ecovillage being developed at Chidlow, east of Perth. Power for the 104 houses and village centre (construction to start early next year) will be solar generated, both from a large central array of pv cells and supplemental cells on the roofs of those who want extra power. I'm not sure whether we will be on or off-grid, I think that is still being decided. The question of storage is the determining factor here.

If you want more information, check out http:// www.somervilleecovillage.com.au/solar/ The project director is K.T. Lim, a very friendly and forthcoming person who may be able to answer some or all of your questions.

Cheers,

Mike Fuller

Sorry to go off-topic here, although there is a computer-related issue at the end of all this.

I'm hoping WAMUG members may have some information and/or experience with installing and using individual residence renewable grid-connected power systems. I'm looking at putting the largest solar array I can afford on our roof (4 or 5 kW) to both supply our own electricity needs and sell back excess to the SW grid when the sun is shining, and purchase energy as needed when the sun is not out/at night.
