Greetings all.

Our last meeting was a bit of a departure from our usual meetings and took the form of a lively discussion on what will become of WAMUG when the current Committee moves on. As I have mentioned before, 2007 marks my tenth and final year on the Committee as President. I will not be putting myself forward again at the '08 AGM.

The general consensus was that everyone wants WAMUG to be this or that, but the reality is that no one has the time to actually prepare anything. So it was decided that we tap this 600 odd member mailing list and see if stir up a bit of a discussion. The problems that face WAMUG stem from the fact that everything User Groups were set up to accomplish, are now being done better, faster and cheaper elsewhere on the Internet. Gone are the days when you would have to wait months to find out what is happening or get that all important software update. In this vein the only thing WAMUG is essentially useful for is human contact.

The Committee would like your thoughts on where you see WAMUG going in the next few years or so. Do you want to come to meetings and just watch, or would you have time to contribute things yourselves.

Regards

- Matthew Healey
- WAMUG President
