I just checked with iinet. They used to provide cheaper ADSL +2 if
you had your home phone with them, and that is the plan I signed up
for, but now they don't. So, the basic Telstra line rental, plus ADSL
+2 and VOIP as suggested by Adam does sound a good idea.
You get free movie and music downloads, plus dedicated Apple support
with iinet.
cheers, susan.

My recommendation would be to put your home phone with Telstra and
reduce it to the minimum line rental ($19.95) and then sign up with
an ISP that gives you quality VoIP. With iINet you get extra
downloads if you have VoIP with them. The VoIP costs $10 extra to
reserve the phone number, so in the end you pay the same as you
would on a standard phone line for rental, however you can now make
untimed national calls for $0.15 and international calls for $0.02
per minute.
My home phone bill was traditionally around $45 with telstra and I
am now paying about $4-$5 in calls with iiNet VoIP.
Adam.
