With 10.4.9, Apple has included a driver for USB webcams. They must be UVC compatible, such as the Xbox 360 camera (about $50). The third page of the skype link has more information on which Logitech cameras are supported under 10.4.9 without a driver.

I did find the note about UVC cameras on the Skype forums.

Interestingly many people are reporting that (for example) some Logitech models do / don't work depending on what revision the webcam hardware is even though they're both marked UVC on the box (and there's no way to tell which version of the hardware it is).

I think I'll give it a punt anyway!
