Hi fellow wamuggers

I have a couple of concerns with my new computer. I am hoping that someone might be able to offer some advice or suggestions. I have undertaken a quick check of the archives on the heating issue, but couldn't find a match.

I connected and set up my new mac yesterday, for the first time. Most of the day was taken up downloading software updates. The computer was on for 1/2 of the day, and till late at night. It was not in a hot location, however, it seemed that the back of the computer specifically, the top left side was running red hot.

I googled possible reasons, but couldn't really find out how hot it should run. I found information about a small free application called CoreDuo Temp. I downloaded it, and it told me that the temperature of the machine was running between 45 and 50 degrees Celsius. Perhaps it's just me, but that seems to be very hot. Does anyone know if this is normal?

Today although the room is quite cool, I have a fan directed at the computer, however, it is still reading as 45-48 degrees Celsius.

The second issue relates to the Intel memory card. I bought a game some time ago which was rated as Universal Binary (The Sims Life Stories). As I was unable to play it on my old eMac, I was waiting until I got the new computer. A check of the Aspyr Game Agent yesterday told me that I couldn't play it because an Intel Memory card could not be located.

If this is a Universal Binary Game, shouldn't it still run on the Mac's operating system (using Mac memory)? Or do Universal Binary games require memory from both platforms to run? I'm sooooo ..... confused!

As a novice who uses the computer predominantly for word processing, internet and games, these issues are unfamiliar to me, and any assistance that members could offer would be greatly appreciated.

The Specs of the machine are:

Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo (24")
      Memory: 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 2GB)
Mac OS X: Tiger Version 10.4.11
(Although Leopard was shipped with the computer, I'm reluctant to load it up yet till more of
      the bugs are ironed out)
     Hard Drive: 1TB.

TIA
Rosie
