I have had an unexplainable little colour confusion that has me
stumped. I am placing a display ad in the West Australian which
features a coloured logo, a bright chilli red. I supplied the logo as
a high quality RGB .jpg with embedded profile which was put together
by the West with text to make the ad. A proof was sent to me as a PDF
email attachment. It is fine except that the onscreen colour of the
logo when I view the ad in Acrobat 6 is a muddy red brown. Back at
the West it shows as its correct chilli red. I have given them the
CMYK values from my original logo (C4 M100 Y100 K 1) which will be
used in the printing. In fact the red in the logo on the PDF proof
is C20 M71 Y96 K8. I find this puzzling as I believed that Acrobat
PDF files were true and uncorruptible by email. I find it hard to
believe that the West system is at fault, it is apparently self-
consistent and correct at that end. Opening the emailed PDF in
Acrobat or Photoshop lead to the same result.
Has anyone anything to offer - both the West production department and
I are mystified.
