Hello WAMUGers,
I'm posting this in case anyone experiences what I have this morning.
I was happily online checking my Account with Telstra .... as if.
When I went back into Mail I received this Error Message:
“Unable to Receive Mail
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the
settings for account “Westnet” or try again.
The server error encountered was: The POP server “mail.wn.com.au”
doesn’t support X-APOP authentication. Please check your account
settings and try again.”
As I had not changed anything in my Mail Account settings, I went to
WestNet's outage site to see if they were having a problem with their
Mail Server, no they were not.
After fiddling around with restarting Mail, restarting MacBook
Pro .... I decided to, (as the error message had said), check my Mail
settings ;-)
Lo & behold I noticed that there was a changed setting. How this
happened I have absolutely no idea.
In Mail > Preferences > Accounts - Advanced - Authentication was
changed to POP (APOP)
Changing it back to "password" corrected the problem.
So if it happens to anyone else, go to
Mail > Preferences > accounts - select your account - Advanced
In the Advanced tab, the last entry is the word Authentication:
followed by a box.
If it has changed to POP (APOP)
Set it to "password"?
Ensure it is NOT set to Authenticated POP (APOP).
Save your changes.
Why it changes, I don't know.
Cheers,
Ronni
