Hi Tony,

if it begins to download but stops at a particular photo (DSC 00536) then I would be inclined to suggest that that particular file is corrupt. Try exporting the others.

iPhoto allows you to backup by using Share/Burn or Export or Drag & drop. You said you used export have you tried the other 2. I usually just drag the photos onto a folder.

                      Regards,
                      Eugene

Hello Tony,

Are you trying to "Backup" your iPhoto Library ... Copy the Entire iPhoto Library to your external Hard Drive?

If so, first check that the External drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled) because a Windows formatted drive can cause problems with your library.

Make sure iPhoto is Quit.
Copy the "entire iPhoto Library folder" to the new drive. That's the only way to copy the photos and the database, which includes albums, keywords, and all other iPhoto metadata.

Once copied, you can Option-launch iPhoto, choose the library on the External Drive, and open it to check that it functions properly.

You'll have to Option-launch iPhoto and select your main library to get back to it after you have tested the back-up.

Cheers,
Ronni
