Speaking from my own (very novice) experience and having faced this
same problem a few years ago, I found the only answer (well the
cheapest) is to buy a very good Epson scanner which will handle slides
and prints, and allocate yourself hours and hours each week to
manually scan these in a few at a time.
It is very expensive to pay someone professional to do this for you.
Maybe you could offer to pay a high school student. This is a very
boring task.
I made a few executive choices along the way as to which photos and
slides really were important to me, and just got stuck into it.
Realisation came only recently - I will not in my lifetime be able to
make the time to scan everything I have.
