Hi all,

I have a Mac Mini that I use to provide an "on hold" service on our
telephone system. This plugs from the little sound output plug on the back into the phone system, and has worked faultlessly until we had a technician
in to play around with the system yesterday.

And things do not work since ! Play around is an apt description .

It appears that the mac no longer outputs sound from the port. If I pull the
plug out, the sound plays through the speakers,

SO that says the Mac sound is ok

but if I plug it back in, no sound is forthcoming.

What you are saying is that you hear no sound ... sound may still be coming out .

I have checked with iphone earphones an I am not getting anything there either.

Unless you have used those earphones before for this purpose I would
be suspicious that they may not be compatible.

or

the connections / plug on the iphone earphones is not compatible with the jack on the Mac .

Typically but not always when you plug into the jack it disconnects wiring to the mac and substitutes the wiring on the plug.

You need to find yourself a high impedance sound input and connect correctly into that to determine if sound is coming from the Mac . Your iphone earphones could be overloading the
sound circuit in the Mac such that you hear nothing.

The input to your phone system should have been high impedance and I would be suspiciious that the phone tech has simply stuffed up and has not connected or programmed for your sound to work .

Old phone technical question ... something stops working ... who has been there last ?

Bob

I have two questions:

1. Could something to do with the phone system have fried my sound output?

2. If this might be the case, who should I send it to to try to fix it?

Thanks,

Andrew
