Ive had this sort of issue before where the machine keeps telling you
over and over the network config has changed or it wont connect to a
time machine etc
If you clear all your network config and re-enter them (if your using
dhcp it should be automatic) it should fix it up.
note : only do this if you really having issues as it will wipe your
network config!
Macintosh HD/Library/Preferances/SystemConfiguration
If you move the files in there (to say a folder on your desktop) bar
com.apple.boot and com.apple.powermangement that will clear all the
network settings for all your interfaces
Restart the machine and open network prefs up and it should be all
back to blank. Sometimes you might need to make a change to the config
eg switch it from dhcp and then back and click save so it recreate the
preferences file properly then give it a restart again. Has always
fixed the problem for me :)

Hi Mac,
Has Peter tried downloading and running The Combo 10.4.11 overtop?
Make sure he downloads the correct version for his iMac:
PPC Combo version:

Intel Combo version:

A couple of tips for Peter:
1. Before you install a System Update, ALWAYS repair permissions
using Disk Utility.
Then after the update is installed, repair permissions again.
2. Download & install the "Combo" version of a System Update.
If running the combo version over top & repairing permissions
doesn't fix Software Update,
Peter could try Removing the Cache.db file from the folder:

Cache.db

Subject: Macintosh software update
Hello
I have been running the software updater on Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.11
and it will not complete and says there is a networking error.
The progress bar moves about 5cms and then stops.
Is there anybody there who knows why this happens or any remedies.
Everything else works fine as far as my network connection is
concerned
1 Mac G4 500 connected to iinet via a D-Link cable modem.
The software updater in Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.11 does not seem to
be working
now for some unknown reason.
Cheers
