Thanks Peter. If I get frustrated with the procedure I described in a later poster then I will visit Woollies. My Christmas stocking is too small for it to take a Macbook Pro :-(

1 Will a standard 2GB SD card fit the slot on the front of the machine?

If it is specified as an SD port then it should take a standard SD or SSD card

2 At the back left of the machine is a USB port. If I connect the printer to
my computer using that port can I do a backup of the SD Card to the computer?
The manuals make no mention of this port.

This is for communication between the computer and the printer only. Without knowing anything at all about this particular printer, but based on experience with similar printers (including my Canon MP970) communication with the SD card via the printer is not supported. The SD Card slot is there so that you can print photos directly from the card instead of loading them into the computer first. You cannot backup the mages to the computer from this port. For that you will need either insert the SD Card in your digital camera and then connect your camera to the computer, or invest is an external card reader (I picked one up from a Woolworths supermarket around 18 months ago for $20, which the manufacturers claim will read up to 22 different types of card). Of course, you could also buy a nice new Macbook Pro which has an SD card slot buit in.... :-)
