Hi Peter, Perhaps if your System Preferences are to "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer", then the mouse might not go into its lowest power mode then the computer is asleep. If you are able to turn this option off, then see if the batteries last any longer. You'll need to wake your computer by pressing its power button briefly to wake it.
