Hi Rod, I would suggest your friend register a domain name. That way it is much easier for people to remember, put on letterhead and cards, etc. Once the name is registered he can then have any traffic to that domain name forwarded to his web.me address - so, people type in www.bestkalbarrihome.com.au but they end up going to the web.me............html site. Domain name register companies can set this up for free usually (after you've purchased a domain name!)
As for getting people to be able to find you, well that now means being Google friendly. As Google have patented their search algorithms, there has been a lot of information on how to best be recognised by Google. Google looks first at the information contained in the <TITLE> tags (this appears in the titlebar of Safari or IE, so your friend needs to have a good, long and informative title. Don't use something like "Welcome to my home page". It should contain all the keywords people may use to try to find holiday homes in Kalbarri - Something like 'Piscator Kalbarri, Western Australia, for the best holiday home in western australia". Writing the perfect title is the main thing. Once you've got the <title> right, Google looks at the first 1000 characters on the page, that includes any html or javascript. So, there should be plenty of information at the start of the page, using terms that people may use to search with. So, the home page should have the main details right at the top, so the Google spiders can find it quickly. Also, do not try to fool Google by putting lots of information in comment tags (<!-- comment -->). Google have been known to ban site listings for doing that, and if you aren't on Google then you aren't visible to at least 70% of internet users. Now you have the site ready, you need to get other websites to link back to you. The more sites that link to your site, the higher rank you'll have in Google. Contact business directories, tourist agencies, etc., to get them to link to you. Other holiday home owners with websites may link to you if you reciprocate. For mor information, this is a pretty good site: http://www.apromotionguide.com/google.html Hope that helps, Kevin Kevin Warner www.kcwarner.com ______________________________ Press CTRL-ALT-DEL now for an IQ test.
