Hi Gerald Are you trying to set a password in System Preferences/Network (which is the wrong way to do it), or are you using a web browser (eg Safari or Firefox etc) to access the Netgear Web Admin page (which is normally 192.168.0.1 with login details admin/password).
You can also find more info on Netgear's support site:- <http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/112> Kind Regards Daniel On 14/9/10 5:32 PM, "Ronda Brown" <[email protected]> wrote: > > > On 14/09/2010, at 4:08 PM, localadmin wrote: > >> >> Hi all >> >> I have Netgear for my broadband >> >> Each time I go into security to put a password on it, it says it has but when >> I check the ones available it is still showing security - none >> >> I go into Advanced >> >> double click on Netgear >> >> then click on the button - show networks >> >> Up comes >> >> NETGEAR without a lock >> >> double click on this and it comes up Security None double click again and >> go to WEB Password click add - shows it with WEP password BUT >> >> if I again click show networks same deal????? >> >> Any suggestions ( somewone is tapping into my network and using it and I >> want to stop them!!) >> >> >> Thanks >> >> Gerald Lloyd > > > Hi Gerald, > > You don't give us any information about what Netgear Modem/Router you are > using? > Have you setup a 'Wireless Network' on the Netgear? > > If you have you don't want WEP (it's been broken for years) you would set > WPA2. > > > Cheers, > Ronni > > 17" MacBook Pro Intel Core i7 > 2.66GHz / 4GB / 1067 MHz DDR3 / 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200rpm > > OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard > Windows 7 Ultimate (under sufferance) > > > > > > > > -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- > Archives - <http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml> > Guidelines - <http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml> > Unsubscribe - <mailto:[email protected]> > --- Daniel Kerr MacWizardry Phone: 0414 795 960 Email: <daniel @ macwizardry . com . au> Web: <http://www.macwizardry.com.au> **For everything Macintosh** -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - <http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml> Guidelines - <http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml> Unsubscribe - <mailto:[email protected]>
