Thanks to everyone who replied, I'm hoping I've now got it sorted. I knew that Apple TV needed ITunes 10 but I didn't realise you needed 10.5 to run it, my 10.4 Mac "wanted" me to upgrade to ITunes 10 everytime I opened ITunes and it was only when I tried to download it, failed and looked on the internet that I found out why.
As far as I can see there's no system requirements on the Apple TV box or in the documentation that came with it and I thought it would just "work" (Apple user from 1986). I'd also note that ITunes 10 is supported on WindowsXP. Since yesterday when I bought the Apple TV I've been able to access podcasts and movies through the ITunes store but unable to connect to my G5 to stream music files, here's hoping that will be fixed soon. Was just going to say it works fine on a PPC machine, as I set up a machine up for a client with 10.5 so they could get iTunes 10 going on it. I love the shops that sell the product, then wonder why the person can't get it working on their machine.... So they contact me and find they need an OS update for it to work,.... I think I've done about 3 machines like that just recently with the install and upgrades. I'm running out of 10.5 CD's i had,...lol.
