I would not call this a “Deliberate deception” by LinkedIn. Sure, Ken is not 
the first person to have made this error.
At the bottom of one of the links I previously sent is this explanation how Ken 
can stop the “Reminder emails” being sent out to everyone in his Address Book … 
WAMUG included.

and follow the steps LinkedIn Customer Service offers members to resolve this 
issue.

Do recipients get reminder emails after I send them an Invitation? 

LinkedIn automatically sends reminder emails to Invitation recipients who have 
not yet responded to your Invitation. Our intention behind sending reminders is 
to jog the receiver's memory in case they overlooked the original message. No 
more than two reminders are ever sent and once a member archives or replies to 
the Invitation, reminders are stopped. 

If you want to prevent any additional reminders from being sent, you can 
withdraw the Invitation. 

If you have received requests from multiple contacts to end the reminders, 
customer service can withdraw all pending Invitations on your behalf. Then, 
later at your discretion, you can re-send Invitations to any of those contacts. 
If you want LinkedIn Customer Service to withdraw all pending Invitations sent 
from your account, please contact us. “
