Just make sure that you partition the external HD using GUID Partition Table. The fact that one machine is G5 and the other Intel is not a problem. Your minimum OS in this case, OS X 10.5.8, runs fine on Intel. The only problems you might have is if you have any PowerPC-only software in the G5 partition (which, of course is highly likely). This software will not work on an Intel-based host machine, although it will be able to boot from the G5 partition.
