The new vector-based standard view, while perhaps not quite as detailed as the Google version is some aspects (see Rottnest Island :-) ), is delightfully smooth in operation when zooming in and out and navigating around, and I'm finding the directions it provides are often more logical and the ability to choose alternative routs is a little easier. It si also my strong impression that Maps is using my Contacts db in addition to data provided by Yelp and TomTom. Yes, there are glaring inaccuracies, but no more, really, than were in the Google-based version (both show a road running through the middle of Royal Perth Golf Club, for example) and I'm sure that with all of this will improve with time. Apple are receiving an enormous amount of negative feedback about this, and have reportedly put their iOS Maps team into lockdown to deal with it. It will be interesting to see what changes they make in the coming months.
