Hi Michael,

To add a bit more to Daniel's explanation. Software Update in Mountain Lion is 
now part of the Mac App Store, but it is still Software Update. 
Software Updates appear in the Mac App Store, but it still is a separate option 
under the Apple menu. Those who installed iWork '09 & iLife '11 from the retail 
disks or the downloaded trial still must use Software Update.
 
When you use Software update from the Apple Menu, the window that appears shows 
the Software Update Apps on top and Apps purchased from the MAS are in the 
bottom section.
(There are two sections of the MAS).
