Thank you all for your help! I think I've said before that explanations, manuals, tutorials etc. rarely cover it all. You can have one of these fully cover an item but some other setting may override what your being shown, and unless your aware of this then the explanation, manual, tutorial etc. just doesn't work.
I used to have a fairly analytical mind but I seem to have lost it as I've aged. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I've got it figured now, time will tell.
