Hi Ronni Your quote about syncing devices has been standard for quite a few iTunes revisions. I don't have a problem with this - it is a required check item when applying "Sync Now" via WiFi on devices. If unchecked I suppose I would have to use the USB cable method. My normal process is to update apps via iTunes to the Mac, then do a WiFi back up and sync from the device while it is on charge.
I think I found the over-riding Preferences setting to stop multiple downloads. iTunes Preferences > Store > Automatic Downloads. "iTunes can automatically download new purchases made on other devices using xxxx (apple ID)." There are check boxes for Music, Apps and Books. I also think that these check items are stored in Apple against individual accounts. When I unchecked the boxes on one Mac, I found the other Mac no longer had the boxes ticked. I assume this means that if you use a second Apple ID while logged in the store, it will require the preference setting to be changed again. The old laptop is "not authorised" to any Apple ID and the preference items for automatic downloading are greyed out. And yes, ITunes made separate downloads to each device. At 1.5 GB it is very fortunate the iiNet have the iTunes store in their Freezone! I seldom download new iPad apps - the Beethoven app is the first for a long time. Perhaps the "automatic" sync-to-all-devices feature has been operating for several earlier versions and just not noticed by me because of the small size of most purchases.
