Thanks Alan, I'm going to try my setup again to pin down when exactly the SOUND preferences window refuses to reveal Internal speakers. It occurs afterI have been playing though Apple Tv but not immediately. I think it could be after the Apple Tv is left on for a day or two and meanwhile I have had reason to restart the iMac, but I'll wait until I ned to do that to let you know. All my software is up to date. cheers
