Hi Ronni and Rob

Sincere thanks to you both for providing me with some way forward...I
think I was looking for a quick way out!! But the Target mode worked
very well, and fast over Thunderbolt which was good, as I had about
55gb to transfer!! I guess doing a backup via a USB 3tb hard drive
will be a lot slower!!

Ronni, Im thinking today it might be worth my while to try Time
Machine on one of my external backup drives, as I have not used it
before? It might be useful as I have a 3tb Fusion drive in the imac so
will be the same capacity.

I guess this is fairly straight forward to do? Would it be best to
have a clean/new and properly formatted external HD, as my others all
have stuff on them?

Many thanks once again, I really appreciate your advice

Best regards

Chris

PS Ronni, I wanted to ask you if it would be best for an update on my
MBPro8,2 (Snow Leopard) to go straight to Yosemite rather than
Mavericks? I was thinking the latter as my imac is running Mavericks
and PS6 works fine on both.
