Good evening, I ran the Repair process (Hold Command + Option while starting Photos) and it seems to have halved the start up time. Before the Repair, start up time was 25.00 seconds. After the Repair operation, Photos now takes 12 seconds to open up ready for use. I'm happy with that but others may be less tolerant. I do believe it is library size dependant but the Repair seems to have made a marked improvement to a library which had only 3 weeks prior been created and hardly used in the interim. Regards Pete.

My library is over 250GB (37,000+ photos and 1300+ videos). I'm sure there are others out there with same or larger. I will do the Command+Option operation this eve and report findings. Will do a before and after test of opening time. My photos are in about 20 separate libraries and there is a significant difference in opening time for larger libraries. I have found it noticeably faster. Launch Photos with the COMMAND+OPTION keys held down and repair the library. Then check to see if there's any improvement with performance. May be some other reason for the slow start ! On 22 May 2015, at 9:09 pm, Peter Crisp wrote: Good evening, I had a successful migration for iPhoto to Photos on my MBP a few weeks back. Ive noticed that the start up of Photos is quite slow. It always does open just a bit slow compared to how iPhoto used to. I like the program though editing still a bit limited but still some good features. No doubt there will be enhancements in future iterations of it. Has anyone else noticed the slow start up or is this my imagination?
