Caution: Uptick in Mac Malware — Here’s What You Should Know Over the past few weeks, Intego has seen an eyebrow raising uptick in Mac malware, and while these threats are low risk, there are some things we want you to be aware of so you can stay protected. Potential new Adwind RAT: Early September we learned of a file being distributed through email that, when opened, opens a backdoor on an OS X system and keeps an active connection to a remote server. As a precaution, VirusBarrier detects this as Java/Adwind so Intego users will be protected from it or whatever it may become. Possible iWorm dubbed as a fake Flash Player: The same week Intego learned about the potential new Adwind RAT, we found what could be either a proof of concept or the beginning a functional Trojan. Nonetheless, Intego VirusBarrier is ready for potential encounters and detects it as OSX/iWorm. Sophisticated OS X backdoor discovered: This week a backdoor for OS X was uncovered. This cross-platform malware is able to infect Windows, Linux, and OS X systems. How this malware is spread is not yet known, but if it finds its way to your machine, Intego VirusBarrier will detect it as OSX/Mokes and swiftly kick it to the curb. Regards, Stephen Chape
