Hi Stephen, As far as I'm aware-The predefined albums Selfies, etc, will always be shown in Photos, if you have any items that do match the criteria for these albums.
You can only remove these albums by deleting the photos or videos inside these albums from your library, or by modifying these photos or videos, so they do no longer match the criteria. The Places album is the current way to show photos on a Map. If you have any photo taken with the iPhone in your library it will probably have a location assigned, if your iPhone is using location services or has GPS.
