Hi Bill,

Time Machine just continues working as before, backing up files that have 
changed since previous backup.
You will find the first backup after a OS system update will take more time as 
quite a lot of system files etc have been changed/updated.

Let it complete the first update, don't interrupt the Time Machine backup 
process!
