Further to my first query on this problem my research has revealed an elegant
solution which may appeal to others.
1. from SystemPreferences/Printers and Scanners/Open Print Queue of the desired
printer
2. Pause the printer
3. Drag and drop the files of the items to be printed into the Queue window
4. Go from Pause to Print
5. Bingo - it all happens and the order is preserved!
There are simpler ways to do 1. depending on your setup.
I am a happy chappie with a prolific stack of nicely ordered printed pages!

I have a series of folders, each contains a list of 10 - 20 single page MS Word
documents, all of which I want to print.
Selecting all those in one folder and going to Print in the Finder File menu
only prints a few (randomly selected!) members of the set. How do I force a
full print of all members of the files list, preferably in order?
