Hi Peter,
Did this fix your ‘Mac stuck in boot mode’?
Click Restart , hold down Command-Option-R to boot into macOS Recovery
<https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201314?utm_campaign=website&utm_source=sendgrid%20email&utm_medium=email>,
and reinstall the operating system.
(Did you know that different versions of Command-R cause different versions of
macOS to be installed by macOS Recovery?
Check out this Apple support article
<https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904?utm_campaign=website&utm_source=sendgrid%20email&utm_medium=email>
for the details.)
Cheers,
Ronni
