Hi Neil. My LG was new January 2018.
Attached is a Panasonic BluRay/HD Player/Recorder which we use a lot. Also an Apple TV Gen 2 which is used for watching Home Videos, Music and the occasional Movie (all from iTunes). However none of these attached devices provide UHD viewing, whereas the LG TV is capable. So I feel that the UHD status of my TV is not being used. I am in a dilemma wether to buy the latest Apple UHV TV and download UHD movies. Or to buy a UHD Player (about $200) and buy UHD DVDs to play.
