Hi Stephen The AppleTV+ service is Apple’s own written shows. You can only get these through the AppleTV+ subscription. Whereas the “normal” way was everyone’s stuff, (The latest Apple TV is still the Gen4 - AppleTV 4 and AppleTV 4K). You can see more about it here - https://tv.apple.com
They have made their own shows eg See, The Morning Show (Also called Morning Wars), Dickinson, For All ManKind and more…..and have a lot more coming. So these shows you won’t be able to get anywhere else except via AppleTV+. You can sign up for the free 7 day trial to see if you like it. And if you buy certain products you get a free year of AppleTV+ They didn’t get good critic reviews before release, but public reviews have been better - https://www.macrumors.com/2019/11/07/apple-tv-plus-shows-renewed-season-2/ Hope all that helps make it a little clearer.
