Hi Wamug I purchased non-working mid 2010 macpro 5,1 via facebook marketplace for its GPU. Turns out this thing had single 3.46 GHz 6 core CPU, 3 x 16G = 48 GB 1333 MHz RAM, Radeon 5770 1GB GPU, 1TB WD black HDD, an Apple Raid card and a working power supply but a corroded chip on the backboard, probably causing the shutdown failure after 30 secs.
I then purchased a working late 2012 macpro 5,1 server with a dual 2.4 GHZ 6 core CPU, 8 x 2GB RAM. I understand that this dual CPU can be upgrade to 2 x 3.46Ghz 6 core CPU (Xeon 5690 chips) or similar - but im not ready to do that yet. So I coupled these together - so that the late 2012 server how has 48 GB RAM, SSD with High Sierra Radeon, 5770 1 GB GPU. According to architosh most 3D Design and drawing software is single core. https://architosh.com/2021/04/apples-new-m1-imacs-are-they-fast-for-cad-3d-users/ my questions is , Am I better of using the single 3.46 Ghz CPU tray (W3690?) , or the 2 x 2.4 Ghz ( E5645?). CPU tray any advice appreciated. Further to that any one recommend where to get Intel 3.46 Ghz Chips (Xeon X5690) or 3.33Ghz chips (Xeon X5680) thanks Gary -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - <http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml> Guidelines - <http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml> Settings & Unsubscribe - <http://lists.wamug.org.au/listinfo/wamug.org.au-wamug>
